The Seminar on New Development Pattern and China's Borderland Economic Development, jointly organised by Guangxi University and the University of International Business and Economics, was held in Beijing.

Liu Zhengdong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Guangxi University, pointed out that frontier governance is an important content of the modernisation of the national governance system and governance capacity, and that the development of frontier economy is crucial to the stability of the frontier and border security. We should strengthen academic exchanges and cooperative research on frontier economy, collect and sort out the literature on frontier economy at home and abroad, study the history and current situation of China's frontier economic development, accelerate the construction of the theoretical system of frontier economics, and promote the construction of first-class disciplines of applied economics in the "ministry and region co-construction".

Sang Baichuan, director of the Institute of International Economic at the University of International Business and Economics, said that in the increasingly complex economic, political and diplomatic environments at home and abroad, he hoped to take the pulse of China's economic development of the frontier and make suggestions through this forum.

Li Guanghui, director of China Frontier Economic Research Institute of Guangxi University, said when talking about "how to build a theoretical system of border economics" that, firstly, the theoretical system should be formed according to the characteristics of the economic development of the border to find the inherent development law; secondly, the flow and integration of the border area should be studied according to the factors of production and the factors of resources; thirdly, to link up with coastal areas, riverine areas, border areas and neighbouring countries to form a new development model; fourthly, to form a new industrial chain, value chain and supply chain from different points and regions to radiate to the neighbourhood; and fifthly, to explore new advantages of borderland development to promote the development of the borderland economy.

Participating leaders and experts and scholars also conducted group discussions and exchanges on the topics of new development pattern and Guangxi's economic development, western development and frontier economic development, and frontier economic development and cooperation with neighbouring countries.
