    Finance

    The predecessor of the Department of Finance at Guangxi University's School of Economics/China-ASEAN Institute of Financial Cooperation was the Department of Accounting and Banking established in 1941 at Guangxi University. In 1984, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of an undergraduate major in finance at Guangxi University. In 1993, with the approval of the National Education Commission, Guangxi University established a master's degree program in finance. In 2010, Applied Economics (including finance) was granted a doctoral degree authorization point in the first-level discipline. In 2011, Guangxi University was granted the authority to confer master's degrees in finance and insurance. In 2018, the discipline of Applied Economics, including finance, was included in the list of "first-class disciplines co-constructed by Ministry of Education and Guangxi". In 2019, the finance major was approved as one of the first batch of national-level first-class discipline construction sites.

    The Department of Finance currently offers education program at various levels, including undergraduate programs in finance (with concentrations such as mathematical finance, financial investment, risk management, and insurance), master's programs (academic master of finance; professional master's degrees in finance and insurance), and a second-level discipline doctoral program in finance, forming a comprehensive training system from undergraduate to doctoral levels.

    The department boasts a strong faculty with outstanding research capabilities and significant social influence. Since the 1930s, many eminent scholars such as Liu Gudi, Qian Jiaju, Tao Dayong, Yang Shizhan, and Wang Danru have taught at the department. The department of Finance currently has 22 faculty members, including 6 professors, 8 associate professors, 6 assistant professors, and 2 lecturers. Since 2012, they have undertaken 17 national-level projects, including 16 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, 1 project funded by the National Social Science Foundation, and multiple projects funded by the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences Fund. They have published 49 books and 16 academic monographs, and have authored numerous articles in high-level domestic and international academic journals such as "Economic Research," "Management World," "Management Science," "Journal of Business Research," and "Journal of Banking and Finance." They have won multiple awards for outstanding social science achievements at the provincial and ministerial levels, and many of their policy recommendations have been adopted and instructed by various departments including the Standing Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region People's Congress and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

    The Department of Finance has established extensive and close connections with various financial management and business institutions. Some professors have gained high visibility in universities nationwide and have become renowned experts in relevant industries in Guangxi, holding important academic positions such as executive directors in industry associations and directors of academic committees. They have provided important intellectual support for Guangxi's opening to ASEAN in finance, regional financial development, and rural financial development.

    For a long time, the Department of Finance has been responsible for training high-quality talents with solid theoretical foundations and strong practical skills for the economic construction and social development of Guangxi. It has trained and provided a large number of talents for the financial industry, economic sectors, and government management departments. The employment rate of graduates has been among the top at Guangxi University, and their work capabilities have been widely praised.
