    Economics

The Department of Economics at Guangxi University's School of Economics/China-ASEAN Institute of Financial Cooperation traces its origins back to the establishment of the Economics Department at Guangxi University in 1937, which was under the jurisdiction of the College of Arts and Sciences. In 1953, due to nationwide institutional adjustments, the Economics Department was merged into other universities. However, it was reinstated in 1984 at Guangxi University. The department currently offers undergraduate programs in economics and holds authorization for master's and doctoral degrees in applied economics, forming a comprehensive education system at different levels from undergraduate to graduate education.

Adhering to the philosophy of "advocating economic science and cultivating new talents for the times," the Department of Economics has developed distinctive characteristics in its academic approach, focusing on "economic theory, historical and contemporary comparisons, quantitative analysis, and exploring frontiers." It has contributed to society by nurturing a large number of high-quality talents for economic development. In October 1999, the Economics major was designated as one of the key construction programs at Guangxi University, with Political Economy becoming a key construction course at both the university and provincial levels. In 2020, the Economics major was recognized by the Ministry of Education as a national-level first-class undergraduate program construction site.

The Department of Economics currently consists of 17 faculty members, including 7 professors, 4 associate professors, and 6 assistant professors. Among the faculty are outstanding teachers who have been awarded the title of Special Professor of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and have been selected as candidates for the "New Century Ten-Hundred-Thousand Talent Project" at the second level. The faculty also includes several rising stars in various academic fields. They have formed a teaching team with multidisciplinary backgrounds and an international perspective covering macroeconomics, microeconomics, industrial economics, real estate economics, regional economics, innovation and entrepreneurship, corporate governance, quantitative history, and econometrics.

Since 2012, faculty members have collectively undertaken 12 national-level projects, including 9 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and 3 projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation. They have also led numerous research projects funded by the Philosophy and Social Sciences Foundation of Guangxi and the Natural Science Foundation of Guangxi, earning multiple awards for outstanding social science achievements in Guangxi. The faculty has published a total of 22 books and 18 academic works. Actively engaging in economic and social development, they have provided extensive decision-making consultation services to the government and enterprises. Many of their research reports or consulting reports have been adopted by party and government organs such as the Ministry of Education and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
